Introduction to knowledge about Bailey Bridge

Definition of Bailey Bridge:

The Chinese highway department uses 16Mn steel to design and name prefabricated highway steel bridges. A set of equipment can be used to construct single lane bridges with spans of 9, 12, 15... 60, 63 meters, passing loads of 10, 15, 20, 50 tracks, and 80 trailers. This type of bridge component is also widely used as a construction support or tower. Due to the frequent occurrence of large-span issues (exceeding 63 meters) and two lane large-span problems during use, experts have developed the 450 model, which can achieve a single span of 91 meters.

Application of Bailey Bridge:

In China, prefabricated steel bridges have made great progress and were finalized for production in 1965. Early Bailey bridges were mainly used in military applications, namely military steel bridges. Nowadays, in addition to serving as war preparedness steel bridges, Bailey bridges have been widely used in emergency rescue, transportation engineering, municipal water conservancy engineering, and dangerous bridge reinforcement. For example, during the May 12th earthquake in 2008, a large number of Bailey bridges were used for emergency rescue and disaster relief. Bailey bridges played a crucial role in the transportation of earthquake relief materials, the evacuation of the wounded, and the evacuation of the masses.
